HistoryOur Long History of Serving West Seattle

We started as Daniels & Brinton West Seattle Mortuary in 1920 at 4441 California Avenue. In 1941, Mr. Daniels had a brand, new funeral home built at 3909 SW Alaska Street, just a few blocks away from the original location.

Lorne Howden, who had started Georgetown Funeral Home around the same time, purchased Daniels' Mortuary with his daughter Arlene's husband, Dick Kennedy in 1954 and they changed the name to Howden-Kennedy. After Lorne retired, Dick and Arlene continued to run the home. Dick, Arlene and their children have served their community and our country in many ways.

After retiring, the Kennedys entered into a business relationship with another family with 40 years of experience in the funeral industry: Russ and Doug Weeks. The Weeks family is committed to carrying on the fine tradition and sterling reputation earned by the Howdens and the Kennedys.

In late August, 2013, after 72 years at our Alaska Street location, we moved to our new location in the High Point neighborhood of West Seattle. We are operating in our new Funeral Home on the corner of 35th Avenue SW & SW Ida Street (next door to the Trinity Church). We continue to be a full-service funeral home.
