I just saw this notice and I remember my pediatrician so well from the 50’s thru 70’s.
He had such a gentle manner. The nurses maybe not so much, most visits ended up with a shot of penicillin you know where and a candy sucker. I’m so happy he lived a full and long life and enjoyed a beautiful wife and family.
Message from I always and forever love Doc and all you Wendy and Cindy were so very important in my life. Thank you my loves forever

Although you died on the 28th of February last year, I only learned of your death yesterday, 28 June 2017. You wouldn't remember me if we'd met on the street, and I would certainly have never have recognized you. Yet, you knew me before I was born. You were the first person to greet me at my birth at 6:04 p.m., on 20 October 1952, in a delivery room at the Swedish Hospital in Seattle, Washington. You were a young physician then, just 32 years old. Your warm, welcoming hands provided my first experience with human touch. And as I grew, from infancy through early adolescence, I came to know you better, my dear pediatrician, as a kind and gentle man. I'm sorry that I never thanked you for your attention to my health and well-being through the 1950s and 60s, but I am grateful for the opportunity to write these words of gratitude here in my remembrance of your contribution to life. Sincerely, Carl D. Barrentine

My deepest condolences to the Carroll family. My brother and I and most of our
West Seattle friends were patients of Dr. Carroll. He made an important impact on our lives. Just a couple of weeks before his passing we were reminiscing about him at a family gathering. I am so glad to see he lived a long and full life. I am one of the first generation he served. He made house calls in the middle of the night and he let me interview him for a school project. He was a very generous man. He leaves a special place in so many hearts.

Dr Carroll was so tuned into each child. He was patient with my Karen when she was so frightened of shots. He believed Jill when she said she had a typewriter in her ear, and believed me when I said Renee had staf infecrion with her chicken pox. He was an amazing man. My grandchildren were also lucky enough to see him. My condolences to Hazel and Herb's girls. My prayers are with you. Joan (Seamens) King

Thank you Lorna for your kind words. We could not have asked for a better neighbor either. We will always remember your tolerance of the noise from the swimming pool, and children chasing balls in your yard. We hope you re happy near your son. We miss you as a neighbor.
Fondly, Ann Marie (Herb and Hazel's eldest daughter)

During the many years Dr. Carroll treated my numerous siblings and me in his role as our family physician, in addition to the shots administered and prescriptions written, he provided a large personal dose of kindness, gentleness and sincere concern for our well being. Reflecting back to those years, I don’t remember ever feeling trepidation at visiting Dr. Carroll. And very often I would receive a special message of encouragement as when, treating me for a severe sprain suffered in a football game, he generously commented that our team (West Seattle) began to lose when I left the game with the injury. This type of non-gratuitous comment was so typical of him.

I know that his precious and generous regard for patients was consistent with the values that informed his life outside the clinic as well: they were shared with, and similarly practiced by his lovely family, which I had the honor and pleasure of knowing.

When I think of Dr. Carroll, I will always think of someone who exemplifies the definition of a “whole person” and he is sorely missed.

A poem by Mary Elizabeth Frye

"Do not stand at my grave and weep
I am not there; I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow,
I am the diamond glints on snow,
I am the sun on ripened grain,
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the morning's hush
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry,
I am not there; I did not die."
