Vickie Sue Kotay, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, friend and maker of memories, passed away at the age of 66 on Monday, April 23, 2018, four months after being diagnosed with Cholangiocarcinoma, a rare form of cancer affecting the bile duct.
Vickie was born March 11, 1952 in Kansas City, Kansas. She is survived by her husband Miles, daughters Kerriann Gill and Lindsay Kotay, granddaughter Olivia Gill, son-in-law Jon Gill, and mother-in-law Catherine Shank, all of West Seattle; brother Steve Tate, his wife Jennifer and their three daughters, and mother Helen Tate, all of Bonner Springs, Kansas. Vickie’s father Virden Tate preceded her in death.
Vickie was a Customer Service Agent for Delta Airlines at SeaTac International Airport. She loved her job as a gate agent, and treasured the colleagues she worked with.
Vickie was known by family and friends as a most thoughtful person, forever finding ways of showing her love, gratitude and affection for family and friends. She was amazing at memory-making, creating meaningful family traditions that have endured for decades, and which will be continued. She always made birthdays and holidays special for family and close friends.
A special passion of Vickie’s was experiencing first-hand the treasures and diversity of the world. She visited more than 20 countries over the past three decades, in the company of family or close Delta Airlines colleagues. Over the course of 38 years of marriage, Vickie and her family lived in six different cities, including two years in Wellington, New Zealand.
Vickie’s generosity and concern for others continues after death, through the donation of her organs.
At Vickie’s request, a private memorial service for family only will be held at the family farm in Kansas.
