With extreme sadness the family of Maybelle Helen Wagner announces her peaceful passing at home into the hands of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and into the Kingdom of God, Sept. 10th.
Maybelle was born to Scottish immigrant parents Duncan and Jessie Finlayson on January 12th, 1917 in Miles City, MT. She was the first born child, followed by her sister Alexandria and brother Duncan Ian (both deceased).
She honored her Scottish heritage as a youth through Highland Dancing and also played the piano. She graduated from Custer County High School in 1934. In 1938 she graduated from Holy Rosary Hospital School of Nursing in Miles City.
Maybelle married her true love, J.D. Wagner of Miles City in 1939. The birth of their two boys followed, Richard in 1948, and Ronald in 1951. J.D. passed to the Lord in in 1986. The family moved to West Seattle in 1956, where she lived until her passing.
She nursed at two locations of West Seattle General Hospital, eventually as Head Pediatric Nurse. She furthered her studies through the U of W and worked at Harborview Medical Center with cancer patients.
The family joined several local churches, and she and J.D. became members of West Side Presbyterian Church in the late 1970's to the present. She and other RN's began a blood pressure testing program for parishioners. She was later honored to be the first Deaconess at the church. She attended classes there and studied the Bible and scriptures intensively.
She tutored immigrant children in High Point through the Catholic Youth Tutoring Program. She befriended an helped many youths who benefited from her patient, loving nature. Her later years at home were enriched by by reading voraciously, visiting with family and friends, and serving as a devout Christian. She left this world with the graciousness she lived here with.
Maybelle will be forever remembered and sorely missed. Interment is at Forest Lawn Cemetery, where she rejoined her beloved J.D., and they will spend eternity together.
