Anneliese Handler was born June 2, 1939 in Passau, Germany, and passed away on August 25, 2019 in Seattle, Washington after a brief but intense fight with cancer. She was the magnet in our lives and lived life fully and enthusiastically. She was strong and warm, loving and fierce. She brought life, gaiety and love to all who knew her. She will be dearly missed by her husband Joseph Handler, her children Marcus Handler (Michelle), Kerstin Kasner (Kris), and Jessica Esses (Derek), as well as her eight grandchildren.
Anneliese loved her family and friends fully and completely. As a warm loving mother to her three children, she taught the meaning of unconditional love as she guided them on their life’s paths. Her grandchildren always had a special place in her heart. They loved her and will miss their “Omi”.
Coming to the US from Bavaria, Anneliese never quite left Germany behind. She had a beautiful voice and loved to yodel and was known to break out in song in gatherings she attended. She was the warm and vivacious life of the party, and an amazing cook. Love and care was given through German birthday tortes, Christmas cookies, along with many other wonderful meals and food.
Our family thanks all of you for your outpouring of love, caring, and assistance. At the worst of times, we have seen the greatest love in life surround Anneliese in her last days. We are blessed with a strong family and friends for whom we are most grateful.
Her funeral will take place Saturday, September 7, at 11:00 AM at Our Lady of Guadalupe church in West Seattle. A reception will take place on the church grounds after the service. Her ashes will be interred later at Holyrood Cemetery in North Seattle in a private ceremony.
