On Friday, February 8, 2019, Charles Columbus Gibbs, loving husband, father, and grandfather passed away suddenly at age 75.
Charles was born on September 14, 1943, in Golconda, IL to Edgar and Estelle (Yates) Gibbs. He was the fifth of seven children.
He, with his first wife Shirley (Fowler) Gibbs and their two children, Sherry and Eric, moved from Golconda to Seattle in 1973. He enjoyed spending time with his family hunting, fishing, and camping. He was actively involved with Boy and Girl Scouts, coaching baseball, and supporting his children's musical pursuits. Charles and Shirley divorced in 1989.
Charles married Monica (Tangeman) Gibbs in 1994. They lived in West Seattle raising Monica's two sons from a previous marriage, Jason and Michael. He took an active role in the boy's lives', traveling with Jason's soccer team, watching Mike play baseball in the church league, volunteering at Our Lady of Guadalupe and Hope Lutheran schools, and taking the boys Jeeping. He was also a great grandpa and enjoyed spending time with all of them whenever possible. Charles and Monica enjoyed their life together, they loved to dance, travel, entertain, bowl and of course play video poker in Las Vegas. He worked at Alaskan Copper Works from 1973 until his retirement in 2006.
Charles was preceded in death by his mother, father, and one brother, Carol Gibbs. He is survived by his wife, Monica, his four children, Sherry, Eric, Jason, and Michael; his first wife, Shirley, four brothers, one sister, and ten grandchildren.
Charles loved his family and was happiest when he was with his wife, kids, and grandkids. He was loved and will be missed.
A celebration of life will be held at Salty's on Alki on Saturday, March 16th at 1PM.
