Dad

“A father is neither an anchor to hold us back, nor a sail to take us there, but a guiding light whose love shows us the way”

Dad was born in Wichita Falls, Texas where he was raised to value family, work and play; to respect others and to stand up for what he believed in. Dad carried these values with him through his life and they served him well.

Dad was a family man first and foremost. He was a loving and devoted father, taking time to teach my brother and I the same values that were instilled in him. Together we shared family vacations, dinners around the table, games of catch in the yard, BMX racing on weekends and camping in the hills. Dad would help us after school with homework and teach us how to drive a nail, change a tire or paint a car…. He taught us how we might enjoy both work and play and how together a family could accomplish anything.

Dad was always a hard worker, even after retirement from the shipyards he would find projects to occupy his time. He helped my brother and I with remodels, built old cars, taught plumbers apprentices and would simply lend a hand in any way he could. Dad would work tirelessly, even after his body began to fail him and the aches and pains got bad. He maintained a can do spirit and powered through. Dad was an amazing man.

Dad eagerly took on the role of “Papa” when the next generation of children came on scene. He continued to teach his values, to love them and to play alongside of them every step of the way.

Dad believed in the human spirit and believed that every person has the potential for greatness if they apply themselves. Dad believed that hard work and love would get you wherever you needed to go. He encouraged the hardwork and provided all of the love and support anyone could ever ask for.

Dad was never more than a phone call away, always a constant presence we could count on. We were all so very blessed to have him in our lives. While I wish he could be fully here again with us today, I know he will live on in our hearts and through our actions until the end of our days.

Love lives eternally and his light will continue to guide our path.

We’ll miss you dad…

I want to express my sincerest sympathy to the Walters family and friends because of losing John recently in death. When our loved ones fall asleep in death, the pain and grief seems unbearable. Our loving God Jehovah (Psalm 83:18) understands how we feel and he comforts us by means of his word the Bible. Psalm 34: 18 tells us: "Jehovah is close to the brokenhearted; He saves those who are crushed in spirit." Jehovah invites you to throw all your burdens on him and he will sustain you in your time of grief. None of us are guaranteed tomorrow, but we are all guaranteed a resurrection. (John 5:28, John 6:40 and John 11:23-25) Also, Titus 1: 2 tells us this promise of a resurrection: "is based on a hope of the everlasting life that God, who cannot lie, promised long ago." Isaiah 26:19 "Your dead will live......And the earth will let those powerless in death come to life." Isaiah 25:8 "He will swallow up death forever. For Jehovah himself has spoken it." Again, the family is in my prayers and I offer my heartfelt condolences. Feel free to contact me if you wish at my email address; myranj@centurytel.net
