Inez Calla Burt

Inez Calla Burt, of West Seattle, WA peacefully passed away with two stepdaughters by her side on Thursday, September 17, 2015 at Providence Mount St. Vincent.  She was 97.

Inez was born June 19, 1918 in Seattle, WA to Robert Bruce and Calla May Lincoln Bruce.  Inez attended Ballard High School and graduated in 1935.  In 1936 she married Paul Krevey and they raised their family of 2 sons: Bruce and Roy.  They divorced in 1963 and Inez remarried Avery H. (Lee) Downey in 1980.  Lee passed away in 1991 and in 1995 she married Elmer Burt.  She worked for the Washington Department of Transportation.  Starting out as a clerk typist, at age 50 she went back to school and obtained her civil engineering degree and was transferred to and worked in the engineering department for some 15+ years before retiring in 1983.  During this time she was a Board Member and Treasurer for the Senior Center of West Seattle and Board Member of Transportation Credit Union and member of the Order of Eastern Star.

Her love of travel increased and in later years she was able to go with Lee to most everywhere within the United States, favorites being Oklahoma, Hawaii, Alaska, and Canada and later with Elmer overseas to places such as Spain, Hong Kong and the Copper Canyon in Mexico.  While visiting Bruce in California she hot-air ballooned over the  Napa wine country, took several motorhome jaunts to Solvan, Hearst Castle and Yosemite, rafted down the Truckee River, and went to several classic car shows.

Inez was an avid square dancer, reader and cross-word puzzle solver.  She will be remembered for her patience, generosity, strength, love of cats and butterflies, and spirit of adventure.

Inez is survived by her children Bruce Krevey (Patricia) of Oakland, CA; Roy Krevey of Rochester, WA; stepson Robert Downey (Saundra) of Seattle, WA who have known her most of their lives; :William Downey Sr, (Sharon) of Des Moines, WA and stepdaughters Wendy Henderson (Robert) of Issaquah, WA; Judy Estroff (David) of Gig Harbor, WA; Vicky Smith (Dave) of Seattle,WA; Grandchildren: Tamara Kitchen (Matt), Kimberly Courtright (Denny), Lynn Smythe, Robert Downey Jr (Holly), Alice Moyer (Donald),Shelli Johnson, Marie Downey, William Downey, Jr (Kimberly), Angelia Mitchell, David Downey (Lisa), Doug Henderson (Brittany), Jennnifer Estroff, Darren Smith, Benjamin Estroff, Emily Smith; 26 great-grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren.  She is further survived by cousins and friends.  She is preceded in death by her husbands, Paul Krevey, Avery (Lee) Downey and Elmer Burt of Seattle,WA; daughter-in-law Earlie Krevey; stepson James Downey; sister Alice; and parents.

Friends are invited to attend a Memorial service on October 16, 2015, 1:00 pm at the Alki United Church of Christ, 6115 SW Hinds St., Seattle, WA  98116, 206-935-2661.  All are welcome to attend and celebrate Inez's life.
