Eugene Wong MD passed away peacefully and unexpectedly on December 4th, 2017 in his West Seattle home.

Gene was born to Ken and Mary Wong on September 21, 1949 in Macau, China. At the age of 3, his family moved to Vancouver, Canada where Gene grew up with his 4 brothers; Steve (Jing), Herb (Lori), Ray, and Henry (Val).

Gene earned his Bachelors Degree in Science with a Major in Physics at the University of British Columbia before going on to earn his Masters Degree in Computer Systems and Business.

After finishing his degree, Gene started his own computer company in the 80s and went on to sell the company to Boeing.

Despite his success in computer sciences, he continued to educate himself. He went to Medical School; received his superiors at the University of Washington and became board-certified in Neurology.

He was later hired by the NIH to consult on their medical computer systems.

While working in Seattle, Gene met his wife Sandra Ashenfelter.  They married at the top of the Smith Tower on August 7, 1988.

Their family grew with the addition of their two children, Alexander (28) and Sarah (25).

Gene was respected professionally.  He "was too young to retire" and consulted throughout the Pacific NW and Alaska.

He had an extraordinary array of skills- from painting, to architecture, to computer electronics. His wonderful talents were equally matched by his humbleness.

He had a sense of humor that never shied from finding a lighter side of things, however silly, morbid, or obvious. He was tender natured to all animals, with careful dedication to the family dogs, chickens, and ducks.

He was a passionate sports fan and loved supporting the Seahawks and Huskies.

Gene is survived by his wife Sandi, his two children Alexander and Sarah, and his amazing family of brothers, sister in laws, nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, cousins, and extended special family.

Memorial services will be held on Saturday, December 16th at 2pm at Tibbetts United Methodist Church--3948 41st Ave SW in West Seattle.

The family would like to extend a very special thank you to all of the numerous friends and family members for their kind attentiveness and loving care.
