Ed Chamberlain, 98, passed away on September 6 ,2014. He was born in Spokane on April 14, 1916. Ed's parents moved to the Seattle area in the mid-thirties where he attended West Seattle High School and met Irma Sessions. They graduated in 1935 and were married in 1939, a marriage that lasted nearly 72 years until Irma's death in July, 2011. They made their home in West Seattle where Ed was still living at the time of his death.

Ed enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1942 where he served as a radar technician during WW II. After the war he was hired as a clerk at the Federal Housing Administration where he eventually became an appraiser and subdivision analyst. He retired from the FHA after 36 years of service.

The church was an important part of Ed's life. He and his family joined Fairmount Congregational Church in the mid-forties and remained a member as it united with West Seattle Congregational Church and became Admiral Congregational United Church of Christ. He served the Lord in many different areas of church life including being a Sunday school teacher, youth leader, moderator, deacon and as a member of the choir. He loved to sing. Ed was a faithful member of the church still attending the month before his death.

In addition to singing, he loved to dance, both ballroom and square dancing. He played tennis into his fifties and enjoyed golfing with Irma into their eighties. He also loved photography, woodworking and especially decorating cakes.

Ed and Irma had three children, Roy, Kathleen and Barbara. Roy and his wife Delores have a daughter Lisa married to Darryl Shima and they have a son Nathaniel (Nate). Kathy and former husband Warren Heinemann have a son Edward Heinemann, married to Sarah (Gross), and a daughter Joanne, married to Jim Smith. Barbara married Dave Brown and they have sons Ryan and Christopher. Chris is married to Emily (Ross) and they have twins Kate and Harrison. Ed loved his family very much and was a good husband, father and grandfather. He will be missed.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 20th at 2:00pm at Admiral Congregational United Church of Christ.
