Passed away peacefully, attended by family on January 12, 2016 in Seattle, Washington.  He was born December 13, 1931 in Yakima, Washington to Charles Warren Davis and Ruth Marian Crandall Davis.

He graduated from West Seattle High School in 1949 and soon enlisted in the Air Force, serving four years, including during the Korean "Conflict".

He enjoyed a long and adventurous life which included working as a medic with Dr. Tom Dooley in the late 50's in Laos and receiving the medal of the Knight's Order of the Million Elephants with the white Parasol from King Sri Savang Vatthana of Laos. He loved to fly, to sail, and to serve; he loved being a big brother, daddy, a grandfather, an uncle and a friend.

He had a knack for learning languages and taught both Spanish and French on the college level.  He spoke several other languages, allowing him to become acquainted with many people.  He was a wonderful teacher and encourager, often saying, "Hang in there".  His sense of humor is legendary and often kept us giddy with laughter! His zest for life included acting, dancing, playing his guitar, sing-a-longs and trying new hobbies.

He served as a Federal employee for many years, first with The Agency for International Development in Vietnam, then with the Office of Economic Opportunity and the Environmental Protection Agency in the states.  In later years he took a return mission trip to Vietnam to provide assistance there.

In retirement he served as a volunteer at Highline Hospital, in school reading programs, and in Nicaragua with the Bainbridge Ometepe Sister Islands Association.

He is survived by two sisters, Dorothea Patrick of Hoquiam, WA and Dianne Mayse of Graham, WA; three daughters, Elaine Davis Thompson of Dripping Springs, TX and Elizabeth Davis-Kuehnau of Koenigsmoos, Germany and Kathleen Cleveland of Katy, TX; 11 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews and sorely missed by all.

The date for the memorial will be on Friday, September 30, 2016 at 1:00 PM, West Side Presbyterian Church, 3601 California Avenue SW, Seattle,WA  98116. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Providence Heritage House, where he lived and was so well cared for: 15533 Western Avenue, Seattle, WA  98101 or onlinef: http://washington.providence.org/senior-care/heritage-house-at-the-market/donate-and-volunteer/donate-online/
