Arunmadav Somasundaram

Arunmadav Somasundaram, son of Somasundaram Ramanathan and Vijaya Somasundaram and brother of Soundarya Somasundaram, was born on January 4, 1993 in Chennai, India and moved to Seattle, Washington in 1998. Arun passed away on March 20, 2018 and was ranked as Ensign on USS Scout in Port Naval Base San Diego on Pier 9 at this time.  He received his bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering at the University of Washington and commissioned into the U.S. Navy in 2016 into the Nuclear Propulsion Officer Candidate program fulfilling his dream of joining the military and serving his country that he exemplified as a child.  During his time at the University of Washington, Arun joined Hyperloop to embrace his love for future innovation and technology. He was also a lifetime member of ISKON and spent many hours during his youth and adulthood both helping and participating in the various events and festivals hosted by ISKON to express his love for his faith and culture. Arun had a deep passion for astronomy and political sciences and spent much of his free time reading and learning. His sense of compassion, love, helpfulness, integrity, and patriotism for his country are some of the many characteristics he embodied. His contagious smile and unforgettable sense of humor lightened any room he was in; he brought nothing but joy to those around him. Arun was an amazing son, brother, coworker, and friend and is dearly loved by many. His loss has changed the lives of those who loved him, but the legacy he has left behind will never be forgotten.
